By Emerson & Cuming Microwave Products
To reduce reflections around the base of a multifunction mast (MFM) aboard the new Zumwalt Class DDG-1000 Destroyer, Raytheon in Marlborough, MA contacted Emerson & Cuming Microwave Product's Engineers to design an effective solution.
The MFM (seen at right) is the top most antenna aboard the DDG, which operates at 5 classified frequencies in the UHF and VHF range. Though the absorber was not directly exposed to the environment, several physical, mechanical, and electrical requirements had to be met in order to be considered.
