Spectrum's RF-7902 wideband RF transceiver module in the 3U OpenVPX form factor offers access to a broad ecosystem of third-party companion cards.

Burnaby, BC (PRWEB) - Spectrum Signal Processing by Vecima (“Spectrum”), trusted supplier of embedded processing, RF and I/O solutions, today announced the RF-7902 wideband RF transceiver module supporting the 3U OpenVPX™ standard (VITA 65). The RF-7902 module is ideal for many applications including wideband datalinks, ground mobile and air-to-ground communications, electronic warfare (EW), signals intelligence (SIGINT), satellite ground terminals, software-defined radio (SDR), and cognitive radio (CR).

The RF-7902 module provides RF-to-Digital baseband capability in a single-slot for size, weight, and power sensitive applications. The RF-7902 module provides 170 MHz receiver analog bandwidth and 400 MHz transmitter analog bandwidth. It is tunable between 200 MHz to 2.7 GHz, and employs industry-standard PCI Express (PCIe) Gen2 high-speed fabric to accelerate data transfer between cards in a system.

“Spectrum is extending its RF product portfolio to provide our customers with high bandwidth, high-speed PCI Express interconnect,” said Mark Briggs, General Manager of Spectrum. “By moving to the OpenVPX standard, Spectrum’s customers can combine our RF technologies with third party hardware, exploiting a wider array of available computing technologies.”

The RF-7902 is offered with Fedora Linux v14 or Green Hills INTEGRITY® v11 board support packages (BSP). Other RF-7902 module features include:

  •     14-bit ADC 490 MSPS
  •     16-bit DAC 980 MSPS
  •     Up to 170 MHz receiver analog bandwidth
  •     Up to 400 MHz transmitter analog bandwidth
  •     Xilinx Virtex-5 SX95T-2 User FPGA for flexible IF signal processing
  •     Fast-frequency hopping up to 3000 hops/sec
  •     Software drivers and API, FPGA interface libraries, and example code included
  •     Digital Down Converter (DDC) and Digital Up Converter (DUC) IP included
  •     Rugged conduction- or air-cooled form factors available

The RF-7902 module has two PCIe Gen2 (x8) links to the backplane with an onboard PCIe switch. This feature, along with Spectrum's quicComm™ software suite, allows users to rapidly integrate systems with Spectrum's other FPGA, DSP, and GPP OpenVPX modules and third party hardware including:

  •     VPX-8320 – Dual fixed-point and floating-point C6670 multicore DSP signal processing engine
  •     VPX-1151 – Single 3.6 GSPS, or Dual 1.8 GSPS 12-bit ADC and Virtex-6 LX240T FPGA
  •     VPX-1131 – Dual 14-bit 250 MSPS ADC and Virtex-5 FX130T or FX200T FPGA
  •     VPX-2131 – Dual 14-bit 300 MSPS DAC and Virtex-5 FX130T or FX200T FPGA
  •     Intel® Core™ i7-based Single Board Computer (SBC) running Fedora Linux v14
  •     Freescale™ QorIQ™ 3041 SBC running Green Hills INTEGRITY™ v11

The RF-7902 module is designed and manufactured in Canada, and is not subject to US ITAR regulations.
